Heroic Brew was commissioned by and composed for Ashley Cumming, horn professor and my colleague at Murray State University. The title represents the intersection of several of my personal interests:

• Beethoven! (whose Eroica theme slightly resembles the opening theme of Heroic Brew)
• Beer, particularly of the Eurpean draft variety
• Playing games with my sons, including the 80's role-playing game Hero Quest
